Speaking of Luke Skywalker...

Chenoa has reached internet stardom for her ingenuity regarding a Star Wars themed costume wedding. This blew-up all over the interweb.

The Bowl Cut - Coincidence?.. I think not.

The Bowl Cut is a glorious hairstyle.
Done properly, it can be beautiful, fetching, adorable... you name it.
Now, I don't know about you, but when I harken back to famous bowl cuts of yesteryear, I think of two people specifically...
Dorothy Hamill, and Luke Skywalker.
It was kindly pointed-out to me recently that the actor who played Luke Skywalker is named...
Mark Hamill.

The Bowl Cut shall henceforth also be know as "The Hamill".

Speaking of Lindsays...

Lindsay Craig (The Beehive's longest-standing Lindsay) did a photoshoot earlier this year with some fabulously good looking models, to showcase her many talents.

Although she's already wicked-talented, Lindsay is always striving to out-do herself (no pun intended). Here is a sample of some of her fine works. Keep your eyes peeled for more from this lady in the future.

Our newest addition - Meet Lindsey Rose!

Welcome Lindsey Rose!!!!

Us Beehivers are thrilled to welcome the newest member of our staff. Lindsey Rose comes to us with years and years of experience behind the chair and crazy talent. With a passion for all things hair, along side cuts and colours she has a special place in her heart for barbering mens cuts and for updos and session styling.

Important note, folks! - This means we now have TWO ridiculously awesome stylists named Lindsey! So if you're booking with a Lindsay and it's this one you're after, make sure you add "Rose" on the end.

Find her behind her chair Tues-Wed, Fri-Sat.
(some stylists are now offering select availability on Tuesdays by appointment only).

x-mas hair tree

This guy's pretty much got it goin' on.
Also, his pal in the background is harsh jealous of his accessories.
Just sayin'.

what?!

I found this lovely lady by searching for "christmas hair", and she came up on a site for failures.
How can hair like this be considered an "epic fail"?!!!!??!!
I don't care what the internet says... I think she looks great.

we made the news!

As much as people like to say that "Fraser is the new Main", we prefer to think that "Fraser is the new Fraser".

The Globe and Mail interviewed Sarah about our recent decision to relocate.
Read on!

We're ready, they're not...

Hi folks,

Sorry to keep you waiting!
Despite us being so incredibly organized, there have been a few delays with the city, so we can't open on Wednesday at our new location on Fraser as planned. Don't worry! Everything's fine! We just need the inspectors to say so and we're on our way.

We'll let you know as soon as we do when we'll be opening the doors.

Thanks for your patience!
In the meantime, you can still call to make appointments.
Chenoa's number is available on our answering machine greeting. Simply call her and she will take very good care of you.

The Last Days Before the First Days.

Sarah and Sarah Jane have spent the last few days on Main Street removing any trace of our existence there. It's been strange... a bit sad and a bit exciting. We're definitely going to miss our original neighborhood, neighbors and space. We're just so glad that we have such a beautiful new salon to reveal to you all in a few days time, and an exciting new neighborhood to call home.

There is nothing like smashing a few things to help deal with feelings.

Bye, Main Street!
We've loved you and we'll smell you later.

the salon that love built..

... or is building anyway...

we are so lucky to have such amazing friends.

our volunteers have helped us tremendously to make this move happen.
we got most of our furniture and fixtures in today and the space is really shaping up.
we would be about a million years behind schedule to open on Fraser if it weren't for our friends.

we LOVE YOU!

We're in the final phases!

I don't know about you, but I find renovating both terribly exciting and punishingly exhausting!

We began moving furniture we could live without from current to new Beehive today!
The painting is a day away from being complete.
We have running water and working lights in the new space on Fraser...
... and only three days left of actual hair-doing at 4385 Main Street!

At the end of these long days, I sometimes like to use the internet to ruin what's left of my brain and remind myself of why life is funny and fascinating. You know... to motivate me or whatever.
Here's a few gems I've uncovered.

Sharing is caring.
Love, Sarah Jane

what james franco did today was forwarded on to me by my friend Trevor Anderson.

this will make anyone's day better.

science is fascinating.

the best way to relieve stress is to kneed bread. the best recipe is here.

this man is lovely.

Brazilian No-Out

We're just as shocked and sad about the Brazilian Blowout news as anyone.

Because of the recent controversy surrounding the product, the Beehive is suspending the Brazilian Blowout service until the company and the feds give it the go-ahead.

In case you haven't been following the news, despite the company claiming a formaldehyde-free product, Health Canada found bad amounts of the f-word in the product. The company has done some of their own testing and thinks the product has been tampered with. They've issued a re-call and won't re-releasing the product to the public until it can pass all the regulatory standards... At which time, when the coast is clear, we shall blowout once again.

We are totally bummed about all of this, but have high hopes that the Brazilian Blowouters will make good on their word. We promise to keep our clients safe from harm, and to keep you informed.

Love, your pals at the Beehive.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and hope we caught you in time!

The Joys of Renovating

Neither Sarah nor I had ever actually been to the dump before.
For some reason we both had these notions that it would not be so bad...

When we realized that we had to bring the tile shrapnel there, we were both kind of excited to see what this mythical place would be like.

Well... it is DISGUSTING!
We went to Ikea afterwards to pick-up some small things for the space, and had dump-stink all over our shoes and totally stunk-up the place.

This is our public apology to all the Ikea Richmond staff and patrons!
We know better now.

(... In hindsight... the whole experience was kind of fun.)

Love, Sarah Jane

Photoshoot - during. Results to come...

Chenoa and Sarah Jane bribed hot women to model for them and hired the talented Ryan Walter Wagner to photo-document it. (Totally PG13.) Shot in the mid-construction space on Fraser St. Stay tuned for the outcome!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

the reno continues...

Well, the framing of the new space is almost done! Things are starting to shape-up real nicely-like.

Oh... and all our hard work paid off. Look at what's left of those vinyl tiles we were ripping off!

More updates to come.

The renovations begin!!!!!!

While we're still open and doing business on Main Street until November, Sarah and Sarah Jane have begun the renovations to our new space on Fraser Street (opening Nov. 1)!!!!

Ripping up baseboards and tile... It's funner than it looks.

The next step is knocking down walls so that we can build new ones. We've called-in the pros to help. More photos and stories to come.

The rumors are true!

If you've seen the "for lease" sign in our window lately and wondered what will become of your local hair lounge...

We're re-locating!

Spend the rest of the summer with us on Main street and come see us at our new spot on Fraser and 23rd starting November, 2010.

We might be moving, but we'll still be local! Check out the map on our ad (to the left), and please contact us with any questions!

Rhymes with "rice"

Nobody feels good addressing them, but they exist and are not to be ignored!

A lot of people are asking us about these irritating little creatures and how to treat them. We may be experts on hair, but we're not liceologists! So we thought we'd forward you on to this little gem of a website (www.lice.ca).

If your child or you or anyone near you has been the home of these little guys, we kindly ask that you not come in and see us until you've used a treatment (according to the instructions), waited 7-10 days, applied a second treatment and waited another week just to make sure they're all gone.

We have a zero lice tolerance and a perfect no-lice record and we'd like to keep it that way!!! Sorry and good luck!
